Cookie policy
Every cookie this site sets, what it does, what third parties may set alongside it, and how to control all of it.

Cookies we set
AnimeAether itself sets two cookies, and both are strictly necessary:
- A session cookie, which is how the site knows you are signed in as you move between pages (it is what a Google sign-in uses). It is marked HttpOnly and Secure, so JavaScript cannot read it and it never travels over an unencrypted connection.
- A CSRF token cookie, which lets the server verify that a form submission came from this site rather than from another one acting as you.
Local storage
If you sign in with email and password, your sign-in token is kept in your browser's local storage, and a short-lived note of who is signed in is kept in session storage so every page does not have to ask the server again. Neither is sent to anyone else, and signing out removes both.
What we do not set
AnimeAether sets no analytics cookies of its own and no cross-site tracking cookies. Visit counting is done server-side with a hash that is re-salted daily and cannot be linked back to a person; no cookie is involved in it at all.
Cookies set by advertisers
Public pages show ads from third-party networks, and those networks may set their own cookies on their own domains (for example to limit how often you see the same ad). We do not control them and cannot enumerate them here, because they vary by network and change without notice. No advertising code runs on the sign-in and account pages.
Cookies set by video players
Episode pages embed a player from a third party. When it loads, that provider may set its own cookies on its own domain, under its own policy. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser prevents them, though some players will not run without them.
Managing cookies
Every browser can block or clear cookies from its settings. Blocking cookies for this site means a Google sign-in will not persist (the session cookie is what keeps you signed in), but browsing the catalogue works normally without one. Blocking third-party cookies limits what advertisers and players can store.
